Job Description:
Position Purpose
This position carries out initiatives for expanding the credit union member base in a profitable manner, consistent with the Southland Credit Union strategic plan. Reporting to the Director of Business Development, this position is accountable for contributing to Southland CU’s long-term success through the execution of member acquisition and asset growth that positions the credit union as the financial institution of choice for retail/ financial customers in Southland CU’s Southern California markets.

Nature and Scope

As a member of the Business Development team, the Business Development Officer contributes to the formulation, coordination, and implementation of Southland CU’s sales plans, goals and objectives. The position has primary accountability for meeting or exceeding credit union growth goals for membership, loans, and deposits. These goals will be accomplished by partnering with sponsor groups to promote the value of credit union membership to their employees.

Accountabilities
§ Contacts and develops new members from new and existing SEGs as well as local businesses through prospecting, cold/warm calling, referrals, open enrollments, employee meetings, and new employee orientation programs.

§ Calls on and develops a referral network with real estate brokers, business/professional associations, accountants, lawyers, etc. to solicit lending and deposit relationships. Conducts effective networking, outreach strategies and on-site visits to determine the business' feasibility and SEG needs.

§ Maintains and grows relationships with current members. Pro-actively seeks information from members and prospective members to understand emerging business environment, needs and desired benefits and recommend new products or service alternatives.

§ Tracks, measures and reports business development efforts, sales, and special events. Works with the Business Development team and Management to identify and overcome the cause of under-performance and to press for process and performance improvement targets.

§ Works in concert with Branch Management and staff to ensure a high level of service is experienced by all members through relationship building efforts, communications, and processes.

§ Works in concert with the Director of Business Development and Marketing to develop effective sales program and collateral materials to support Business Development efforts.

§ Attend Weekly Sales meetings at assigned branch to ensure Branch staff is aware of BD activities taking place within the community.


Job Requirements:

The knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to successfully fulfill the accountabilities illustrated in this position description.

A typical background for obtaining the requisite knowledge, abilities and experience is graduation from a four-year college or university with major coursework in business, finance/accounting, marketing, or a closely related field; and at least two years of progressively responsible experience in outside sales or business development within a business enterprise; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
