POSITION SUMMARY Under supervision of the Athletic Field and Turf Maintenance Supervisor, the Field Maintenance worker is a non-exempt position under FLSA, responsible for executing and performing duties outlined in the comprehensive field maintenance program for Turner Recreation Commission athletic fields as directed by the Athletic Field and Turner Maintenance Supervisor. Additionally this position requires the ability to perform a variety of routine and skilled maintenance, construction, custodial, and repair activities involving parks and recreation buildings, grounds, and equipment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Performs all duties in a safe and professional manner in accordance with established departmental policies and procedures. Prepares athletic fields for games, including dragging and marking fields and equipment setup. Maintains TRC facility and field landscape by mowing lawns, pruning, trimming, dirt work, etc. Fertilize, aerate, top dress, over-seed lines and mow all Turner Recreation athletic fields. Responsible for maintaining and repairing field maintenance equipment. Interacts appropriately with Turner Recreation Commission patrons and staff. Follow all directions and assignments as received. Maintain cleanliness and stock bathrooms at athletic fields Communicate any and all safety concerns directly to Supervisor. Wear and carry eye and ear protection at all times. Obey and comply with all TRC, Wyandotte County, State, and Federal ordinances and policies.
MARGINAL FUNCTIONS Assist in resolving concerns and complaints from participants and the general public. Provide interior and exterior custodial maintenance of the Community Center including such things as mopping, vacuuming, arranging tables and chairs, organizing the storage facilities, and replacing light bulbs. Assist administrative staff, other departments and perform other duties as deemed necessary or assigned.

Job Requirements: POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Experience: Previous experience with grounds work preferred, but not required.
Education: High School diploma or equivalent. Training in proper use of field maintenance equipment.
License/Certification: Employee must have a valid drivers license. Relative licenses preferred.
Technical Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: The employee must have the ability to establish successful working relationships with co-workers, volunteers, and the public and use good professional judgment, honesty, and integrity in decision making. The ability to interpret written instructions and manuals is required. Employee must be able to interact with the public in a professional manner and have verbal and written communication skills.
Problem Solving: This employee encounters problems with weather and field conditions and equipment malfunctions.
Decision Making: Independent decision making is not involved.
Supervision: This employee is subject to supervision by the Athletic Field and Turf Maintenance Supervisor.
Financial Accountability: This employee is responsible for department equipment.
Personal Relations: Daily contact with the general public, co-workers, and supervisor.

Working Environment: Works in all kinds of weather conditions and mainly an outdoor environment. The employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts and/or heavy equipment. The employee is subject to electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud and will be loud during certain assignments.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to sit, stand, walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus. The position requires manual labor including lifting and carrying heavy objects over 50 pounds, frequent bending, kneeling, and stooping, climbing (heights greater than 20 feet), ability to operate department equipment, and a high level of physical energy. The employee is subject to pre-employment physical examination with a written statement from the physician as to the employees ability to meet the requirements of the position and also subject to drug and alcohol testing.
