GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Under close supervision of supervisory personnel in the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities’ Bureau of Emergency Management and Security, learns to conduct technical studies, reviews, inspections, and/or investigations relating to the enforcement of public utility regulations and laws; does other related duties as required.

Duties and Responsibilities

Under close supervision performs inspections, studies, reviews, and data analyses concerning the adequacy of public utility service.

Learns to conduct field inspections and/or investigations to monitor compliance of public utility companies with federal and state regulations.

Prepares technical reports summarizing analyses and findings, which may include calculations, drawings, plans / specifications, diagrams, maps, spreadsheets, charts, and other technical information.

Assists in the monitoring of the restoration of public utility service in order to ensure compliance with state and federal public utility regulations.

As instructed, checks reports and other documents relevant to inspections, investigations and/or enforcement of public utility regulations.

As instructed, conducts studies related to public utility outages, emergency response and/or customer complaint investigations as required.

Prepares reports of inspection activities containing facts, findings, conclusions, and recommendations.

Maintains the necessary and essential records and files in the administration of duties and assignments.

REQUIREMENTS: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree.

NOTE: ADVANCEMENT: Applicants who successfully complete the required
twelve (12) month training program will be eligible for advancement to the title of
Investigator 3.
