Job Description:
With very little supervision, this position exists to perform duties as assigned by management in the installation, start-up, testing, commissioning, and owner-operation training of electric power generation equipment in a safe, efficient and capable manner in the least amount of labor hours necessary and without re-do.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Inspect equipment for faults and completeness. Test equipment to determine operational condition. Troubleshoot to determine location and extent of equipment faults. Repair equipment by adjusting, aligning, repairing or replacing defective components. Test repaired items to ensure compliance with technical specifications. Prepare appropriate maintenance forms and records. Perform preventive maintenance checks.
2. Analyze all Caterpillar and related Power Generation equipment systems and components for proper operation. Demonstrate proficiency in reading technical data and schematic drawings.
3. Perform new and used equipment start-up for delivery to end-user.
4. Conduct customer training in proper use of electrical equipment.
5. Perform Caterpillar updates as directed by Caterpillar, Inc.
6. Assist contractor as needed to ensure proper installation of equipment.
7. Make warranty recommendations.
8. Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
EQUIPMENT/TOOLS REQUIRED:
1. Furnish all hand tools required to repair, test and diagnose electrical equipment, power generation and electronic systems on Caterpillar and related equipment.
NOTE: Some high dollar value tooling is supplied by Hawthorne Pacific Corp.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
1. Must have a high school diploma or have passed a G.E.D. test or can provide verification of all formal classrooms study or hands on experience related to heavy equipment repairs.
2. Minimum five (5) years experience in the repair of Caterpillar products.
3. Expert working knowledge of Caterpillar Power Generation Equipment.
4. Proficient in the repairs of electrical and electronic control systems.
5. Must have a valid Hawaii Class "3" Driver's License with a good record.
6. Must have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
7. Ability to multi-task and establish priorities.
8. Ability to maintain a flexible attitude and approach towards assignments and successfully operate under ambiguous guidelines.
9. Ability to maintain organization in a changing environment.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
1. Walking and moving about on foot often through uneven terrain.
2. Hands/arms operating equipment, hand and power tools.
3. Handling: Seizes, helps or works with hands.
4. Lifting: Raises or lowers miscellaneous equipment parts and tools.
5. Reaching: Extends hands and arms in any direction.
6. Stooping: Bends body downward and forward by bending at knees or waist.
7. Standing: Remains in standing position if required for certain repair or maintenance work.
8. Climbing: In and out of equipment.
9. Vision: Read work tickets, parts and service books and operate heavy equipment.
10. Talking: Communications by radio, phone and in person.
11. Hearing: Hears well enough to discern mechanical problems for safety in and around shop and construction sites and to receive communication by radio, phone and in person.
12. Sitting: Sits in equipment and vehicles.
13. Laying: Lies in prone position under vehicles and equipment.
