Job Description:

Responsibilities: Under the general supervision of the chief of the radio and television service, the chief of the TV news and production section plans, supervises and administers the technical operation, and the personnel and budgetary management of the section, comprising of the TV news and facilities unit, the photo unit, and the multimedia resources unit. Reporting to various budgetary bodies in the United Nations. In consultation with the chief broadcast engineer, he/she drafts the request for proposal to procure a broadcast vendor, and recommends terms for inclusion in the contract affecting the work modalities of the radio and television engineers. Develops, formulates and executes plans for the acquisition of capital equipment for the department. Analyzes operational requirements and recommends improvements in the production workflow, establishes priorities and collaborates with relevant UN offices to create an effective broadcast production environment while ensuring a proper maintenance program, and to project and execute the upgrading and modernization of facilities and equipment. The incumbent supervises UNTV and UN Photo coverage operations and the management of television and radio studios, and the international broadcast center. Responsible for the integrated audio-visual production libraries, comprising of audio, video/film footage and photographic materials. Establishes usage policies, as well as library retention guidelines, and supervises the preservation and restoration projects. Supervises the promotion and distribution of the UN audio-visual products and the establishment of partnerships with broadcast organizations. Supervises the complex client/server multimedia electronic news production system, and oversees the design and content management of all internet/intranet activities within the scope of the radio and television service and in conformity of UN system-wide Internet practices. Performs other assignments as required.

Qualifications: Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in audio-visual, communication or related fields. A first level university degree with a relevant combination of academic qualifications and experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. At least ten years of progressively responsible experience as a broadcast journalist or in audio-visual resource management, at both national and international levels. Managerial experience, including project planning and implementation, is required. English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this post, fluency in written and spoken English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language is desirable.
