Job Description:
A major coal producer has a vacancy for an Operations Manager/Open Pit Manager for a Contract/Permanent expatriate vacancy in the Coal Mining sector in Barranquilla, Columbia – South America. The level of compensation that will finally be agreed upon will depend on the characteristics and experience of the chosen executive.
Job Requirements:
· Handling of community relations, the environmental protection program and the maintenance of effective contacts with local authorities. The candidate will be required to stay at the operation during the week, and live in Barranquilla on weekends.
· Responsible for all aspects of the management , including production, safety, and environment and all other actions and responsibilities required to deliver the business plan.
· Develop and maintain a management structure for safe operations in a way that facilitates the development and implementation of the site’s Safety & Health Management System, which will include the site’s Safety and Health Policy objectives.
· Document the management structure in a way that clearly identifies the roles, responsibilities and competencies required by senior positions in the structure and notifying the relevant statutory bodies of appointments so made.
· Appoint superintendents, supervisors and other officers who are competent to perform the tasks assigned to them. Ensure all replacements for persons in the management structure during temporary absences are competent.
· Undertakes a pro-active role in the leadership and management of the mining operation.
· Assists the Vise President Operations in liaison with external regulators and other stakeholders as required.
· Ongoing evaluation of contractor versus owner-managed operations.
· Ongoing review of mine plan to optimize mine designs and production.
· Provide production personnel with professional technical design and planning support.
· Development of cost control systems and reports to improve effectiveness of management information.
· Provide direction on the implementation of production reporting systems.
· Optimisation of life of mine production volumes and development of mine plan scenarios to deliver maximum shareholder value.
· Further identification of additional coal reserves and resources within mining lease.
· Negotiate effectively with contractors.
· Maintain an accident-free operation.
· Maintain a positive labor climate.
· Maintain effective interfaces with other areas in the company.
The Candidate
· Age: 35 – 50 years
· Degree in Mining Engineering / Civil Engineering / equivalent.
· Minimum 10 years experience in open pit mining operations. Should have good administrative skills and experience in mine planning
· Must be fluent in English and preferably Spanish, but not required.

Additional Information:
· 3 trips home a year, of two weeks duration each.
